The advice on this site about physically and mentally preparing yourself for sleep makes a lot of sense. Though, one thing that helps me relax before bedtime and in the mode to drift off to sleep is using an old fashioned heating pad and/or hot water bottle.
I lay on it for about 10-20 minutes while reading a book. Sometimes I even put it on my stomach for a while. It just seems to calm me down and make it so easy to go to sleep.
So I guess some people get the same effect from a warm bath at night. I personally don't like baths. Yet, the heating pad does the trick and helps me get those zzzz's.
